Shannon Bauer Speaks Out

Shannon Bauer Speaks Out

Interview with Shannon about her brother Shane Bauer and his friend Josh Fattal, imprisoned together in Iran since July 2009, held without charge.

Shannon is 24. When she started studying a psychology course, she didn't imagine that she'd be spending the next 14 months campaigning for her brother's release from prison in Iran. He hadn't even been planning to go to Iran.

In July last year, Shane had emailed Shannon to say he and his girlfriend Sarah were having a short holiday with their friend Josh and that he would be back at his home in Syria in a few days.

However, Shane and Josh are still not home. Sarah has only just arrived home, after a painful farewell to Shane and Josh. She has not heard from them since.

Shane Bauer, Josh Fattal and Sarah Shourd were captured by Iranian guards on the border of Iraqi Kurdistan, in July 2009, and taken to Evin Prison.

Shane and Josh are still there. They have been held without charge for over 14 months.

Sarah, Shannon, and the rest of the families, do not know when they will ever see Shane and Josh again.

In this emotive video, Shannon talks to Safe World about Shane and Josh's life in prison, the emotional challenges of running a seemingly endless campaign, and the bitter-sweet joy of Sarah Shourd's homecoming.
