Uzbekistan is most corrupt in Europe and Central Asia - UzNews.net

Uznews.net – The Berlin-based Transparency International has published its Corruption Perception Index, in which Uzbekistan occupied 172nd place out of 178 countries, just ahead of Iraq, Afghanistan, Myanmar (Burma) and Somali.

This means Uzbekistan, along with Turkmenistan, is the most corrupt country in Europe and Central Asia.

In last year’s Corruption Perception Index, Uzbekistan came 174th out of 180 countries, which means Uzbekistan has made no progress in the past year.

The 2010 Corruption Perceptions Index shows that nearly three quarters of the 178 countries in the index score below five, on a scale from 10 (very clean) to 0 (highly corrupt), Transparency International said. “These results indicate a serious corruption problem,” the organisation said in the report.

Out of other CIS countries, Russia and Tajikistan shared 154th place, Kyrgyzstan 164th place and Kazakhstan came 105th.
