A pro-cannabis group says New Zealand is entering a trade partnership with countries that have barbaric drug sentencing laws.

Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party leader Michael Appleby says the Trans-Pacific Partnership involves countries including Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam which still have the death sentence.

He says we should place sanctions on them until they remove it.
